In those days they built two machines one for turning, followed by one for grinding the crankshafts. At the time they used state of the art electronics, but nothing to compare with NC and the sophisticated tooling shown in the video.

David, there's a picture of a Cravens Crank Sweep Cutting Machine at http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/File:Im1901Eing-pi.jpg which uses a cutter similar to the one in the video.

Gracesguide has many photos and history of some of the UK's biggest and best engineering companies - almost all now gone!

suppose we have more room for a few more call centres now
