Title: Hello From Grimsby North East Lincolnshire England
Post by: PhiberOptix on September 07, 2009, 06:58:00 AM
Hello Everyone

My name is Andy, I am a 42 year old Brit and I am married to an American, I spent over a decade in the Royal Engineers, I owned two computer shops, and worked for a local Fabrication/Engineering company making machinery for the food industry, but due to ill health I am currently unemployed, and have been putting my spare time into my workshop where I have been modifying my combi (clarke clm 500 Mill/Lathe) making tools and model engines, and trying to get my youngest 8yo son interested in this hobby. My 'workshop' was the pervious occupants 'girls' bedroom complete with pink rose wall paper, pink carpet, and pink Barbie curtains, as I am using this this room for my workshop I am not going to waste project monies on decorating, I have re-enforced the floor to help support the weight [and hide the pink carpet ;) ]
I found this site via HMEM where I am a recient newbie also, seeing so many familiar names here from HMEM it looks like this is a 'sister' site

Regards
Andy

PS: ???? where the hell is the spell checker (my spelling sucks) ????

Andy,

Forget about spelling checkers, as long as we roughly understand what you are on about, that's all that is needed. We don't stand on ceremony here, you get what you are given.

I went thru the same ritual as yourself, back bedroom and steel plates to reinforce the floor. We all have to start somewhere, and build on it.

This is a sort of sister site to HMEM, but on here we deal with projects rather than model engines. Almost anything that takes your fancy, and it is legal, you can post here and get either comments on your work so far, or help and discussion if needed.

All we ask is that you retain a good sense of humour and show plenty of pics. That's why you don't need a spell checker.

Most of the erks on here can't read, and come here for the pretty pics.

Hi Andy

Welcome aboard the cube  :borg:

Over on HMEN I was trying to work out your nationality I thought you were a Brit but you kept throwing in American frases, I guess that comes from having an American wife, I,m married to a Scot HockItheNoo  .

This is a fun place to be leg pulling is welcome.

And as John said nearly anything goes as long as its legal.

But we do like lots of Pics :worthless:

And watch out for  :proj:

Have fun

Stew

welcome andy

this bunch of guys on here are (for the most part ) a great bunch of .............. well..............you know

my first workshop was a spare bedroom in a basement apartment, it worked out very well but carrying a lathe and milling machine down the stairs was a real bugger of a job.

any who welcome and we want pictures of ALL projects  :)

Thank you everyone,

 It looks like this forum is as fun and friendly as HMEM, ;)

Stew, Yes m8 them phrases are from living with her for five years and five trips to the USA the last one was for thirteen months
as for Scotland i all ways think about 'Take the high road' with Morag & Dougal,  John and you both say its ok as long as it is legal
erm how does that work then? The USA can build 'Spudguns' and real guns, cannons etc... Legal over there, NOT here!!!
can we (Brits) reply on these threads? I dont know about  :proj: I have loads of projects on the go an a load more planned so I may already be suffering from it along with tool and engine envy :)

Nick & David want to see my builds on this site, do I just post the URL to the thread on HMEM, or do I start new threads here, for each build and repost the lot again? or do them all in one big thread? I didnt want to post them in this topic as this was just ment to be an Introduction, or I could just post the end result pics here

Regards
Andy

The little rocker (I have not got to work YET)
The flame eater is a work in progress (needs a base plate - waiting on materials )
the Elmers Tiny is still untested (soon to be rectified)
The Finger Treddle is an Experiment  (Built without plans)
The Elbow Engine (i screwed a cylinder up - waiting on materials to redo)

various other bits are gas charging adapter for my Air rifle, Gas Plug again for the Air rifle, Air rifle magazine storage bullit, apprentice rose, and falconry hood stand

I don't think you CAN cut a flat surface.  Your bling gene won't allow it.
