Hi everyone

I made a video of how I used two parting lines and three boxes to make a generator housing in cast iron.

Thanks for posting the video. You are a patient person. How many hours did it take after the pour before your could demould it and hold that iron in the hand? After pouring a casting, I can't wait to break it out and see if it worked.

You do a masterly job with those green sand cores suspended from the cope.   :clap: So easy to have them break off!  :(

Was the central core one of your cement mix cores?

awemawson  When the going gets tough the tough get going.

RotarySMP  Iron castings that size can be taken out the mold between 15-20 minutes. With that casting I left it for 3 hours as I had other things to do.

 vtsteam  I think my sand does seem to defy gravity most of the time.

Well you do have a HUGE advantage in  that you work upside down relative to most  of us   :lol:

Andrew, I've tried working upside down, and believe me it isn't an advantage.

Another one of those myths like peeling onions under water to keep from tearing. I've found it's impossible to hold your breath long enough to do that.

Steve,

Have you tried blanket stitch all round the outside?  That stops tearing and you don't need to hold your breath at all!   :D   :D   :D
