Title: A couple of old Vids that might be of use

As most of you will know, I like searching back thru old books and archives, purely because there are answers to most modern day engineering problems.

Here are a couple that might be of interest to people, showing your the why's and wherefor's of how it is done.

These are from my own archives, and I have converted them to avi files so that everyone should be able to play them.

You should find, that even if you don't have a fileserve account, if you select normal download and wait for a few seconds, you should be able to download them with no problems.

Has anyone tried to download these BTW, or are there problems?

I can't tell if you can, as I have a premium account.

I don't want to put them onto bucket because they would take up too much room on my free account.

I will say one thing, even though rather old, they do show how easily things can be set up and done. With each step explained in full.

I downloaded both of them and really appreciate the information.
I always learn something watching videos like these. Reminds me of the things my Dad tried to teach me and I was to stupid to learn (thought I knew better:{( :med:

Have downloaded Single point tool use and the other is downloading as I type this. Watched the first one and it is very informative as to why a tool will not cut properly if not set right. It should be on everyones list of things to watch when they first start using a lathe and again every time they have trouble cutting. Thanks for making them available John.  :D :D

Downloaded the first, now waiting for the second one. No hiccups, 8 minutes to d/l 134.7 Mb. Very reasonable.

Many thanks for the replies guys, I never know if I am doing things correctly by using these storage sites.

As long as you can get them, that is now fine with me.

If anyone is interested, I do have four more from the same series.


Turning two diameters, shows the use of both right and left hand turning tools.

How to run a lathe, based around an old South Bend, but anyone with an old type of lathe like this would benefit from it, especially a beginner to machining.

Turning a large acme thread.

Cutting a taper using both the compound and a taper turning attachment. Get to know how to use correctly, that bit gathering dust at the back of your machine.

All vids are around 14 mins long and contain very good rock solid techniques that could easily be used on modern lathes.

Thats for the Info, downloaded and stuck em on my movie server so i watch them on the Toob with buttered popcorn.

I feel left out. All I got was the commentary, and nicely generated swirly patterns  :(

If anyone knows what software problem caused this, and can give me a fix (preferably in words of one syllable), I'd be v. grateful.

Andy,

You need to download the latest Windows Media Player with the latest Codec's
and install it and then reboot your system and then it will work fine. :thumbup:

Hi

I used to have a problem with videos. Some would play and some would not. I downloaded Final Video Player from http://www.finalmediaplayer.com/  and have not had any problem since. It can play all of the file extensions that I have. And it works on the files downloaded from Bogs.  :D

Andy,

If I was you, I would download the K-Lite codec pack. and install it with just the general settings.

This will install not only the correct codecs to play almost anything on the planet, but will also install a great little media player, specifically for downloaded vids.
I don't have much faith in the windows media player, it is too nosey for it's own good, wanting to do things that shouldn't be done, like spying on what you are playing, and connecting to the net to pass the info on to whoever knows who.

Just watched your first vid on threading and can only say thanks for that and the time and effort you take to educate us.

I follow all your posts with interest and i'm working my way up to building the engine in your book after  i finish this Elmer's engine.

Any who  question ?
                          in the vid the depth of the thread was fed in with the compound slide set at a 30d angle,  i cant see why its not fed strait in !

I know there must be a sound reason for this but at the moment i can't see it.


So  Mr Bogs  sir  (now thats sucking up)  if you have some time maybe you could point me in the right direction

Rather than me having to go thru it all again, that has been covered in great detail, as close as a couple of weeks ago. Where there was a lot of other members input

Go to the homepage, and put a search in for screwcutting or threading, I am sure you will find it very entertaining and interesting.
