Title: Boley 5LZ
Post by: smiffy on April 03, 2016, 06:28:00 PM
Had to make a new pin for a local farmers plough . 50mm dia and one end threaded 1-25 pitch on a reduced shank of 45mm. Material is EN24
So set my boley for semi auto screw cutting and this is a video of it working prior to cutting the thread.
The lathe  has 2 micro switches on the bed operated by stops on the apron . As the tool approaches the end of its cut the spindle is electro mechanically braked and reversed at 4x the cutting speed , when it has fully returned the spindle is reversed and cut put on and a the processes repeats itself  The lead screw is anti backlash and always engaged while screw cutting
There is no screw cutting gearbox but a large  selection of gears and it can cut Metric Imperial Modular and DP pitches

The third link works for me. Sweet lathe. Where did you end up getting it from?

Now I get it.

Size 3. (same as Camlock D1-3). I wonder how many different flavours of the KK short taper nose the germans came up with?

Certainly a better spindle nose than the threaded one.
