Title: UK only, Cheapo Digivern & Angle Grinder Holder
Post by: Bogstandard on March 18, 2011, 06:54:55 PM
Next Thursday, 24/03/2011, at LIDL.

You have most probably had the Aldi ones, the same as myself.

I bought a Lidl one about 3 years ago, and it is still going strong, whereas the Aldi ones are usually ready to be thrown away after a year or so. These do use the larger flat batteries (2032 I think).

Also, if you don't have a method of cutting steel bars up to about 1.5" diameter, but do have a small angle grinder, then one of these might be helpful.

I used to use a much larger one until I got my power hacksaw. Noisy and dirty, but got the job done.

Thanks John; I usually remember to look at the Aldi site, but rarely the Lidl one... I wonder if it's worth watching Netto as well....

That angle grinder looks pretty decent as well; and at £18 with a 3 year warranty, you can treat it as a £6/year angle grinder - even cheaper if it does go pop within the warranty period...

Thanks for the info.

Every time I have found lidl special offers my local store, leatherhead, doesn't have the items in stock. Don't know if that applies to other areas, or if its just my store.  Shame, cos the calipers looked good for that price.

Ade,

We don't have a Netto anywhere near, so I don't scan it.

You're spot on with the guarantee period, not many of these cheapo stores give as good as Lidl does.

Pic,

That is the problem with Lidl, some things aren't in every store, that is why you have to look up your local one specifically, it might save a wasted jouney.

As I have said, the digivern that I got from there is definitely a longer lasting one than the Aldi version, and at the same price, plus the long guarantee.

Most of europe too, lidl's tend to do their promo's euro wide the same week to stop some enterprising soul buying offers from lidl's germany and driving it to other parts then ebaying it there before the offer hits there .
The exceptions of course are for regional holidays (the uk has mothers day, but its a different date in other parts of europe).

If you go to your local branch and its sold out of something, Its worth asking after specific items as a store will always get more units than they shelve, and any unsold promo goes back in the stockroom the day afterwards but can still be made available on demand apparently although policy does vary with store as I think theyre semi-franchised.

We've got those offers on monday :-

Note the funny shape of the plugs on the extension reel, but we still get the inches/mm button on the verniers.

That 2 pack glue is also OK for a couple of quid, cheaper than welding  :ddb:

In the immortal words of Douglas Adams: "A news report brought to you here on the Sub-Etha waveband, broadcasting around the galaxy, around the clock. We'll be saying a big hello to all intelligent lifeforms everywhere and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys..."

Just a couple of points about the lidl calipers. Most annoyingly, they don't remember the measured number when they power off, so if you take a measurement and put them down for a minute or two, the measurement is gone forever  :(.

The other thing that's not quite so good is that they don't turn on when you move them. This may seem trivial, but I have the original type attached to the Y axis of my mill and its a very useful feature to have the display on when the axis moves.

They do use the the larger CR2032 batteries as stated earlier.

Also treated myself to a set of the cheapy taps with tapping drills, as I broke my tap holder yesterday.

Best Regards
