Just a quick hello :wave:
I followed bogstandard here from the chester machine tools forum.
I have just bought a chester comet (sieg c4) but as yet it is still covered in red goo
While I wait for my workshop to be delivered.
I am also a complete beginer with anything to do with machining so expect some silly questions

Welcome to the madhouse Jason.
I am sure that when you get your lathe up and running, all the members on here will try to help you as much as possible.
You are never on your own with the collective behind you :borg:
Cedge (Steve) has had one of the C4 lathes for a while now, and as far as I know, is over the moon with it.
Have you any idea what you are going to make with it, or are you just going to have it sitting in the front room, just so you can admire it?
Until you do get started, have a good look around, it cost you nothing, and comment on anything that takes your fancy, the US locals gave up eating us Brits a couple of years ago, we were so tough it broke their teeth, so it is fairly safe.

As for what I am going to (try and) make all sorts really
A second bearing for my xbox steering wheel
A gear knob for my car which means making a ball turning tool first
maybe some sliders or paddock stand bobbins for my bike
I also have the books the mini lathe, lathework a complete course and milling a complete course
so I would like to make my way through the projects in these as well
That should keep me busy for a while.

So :worthless:, but when you do finally get around to posting pictures post them in the appropriate place.

Wooo Welcome Jason!
I was gonna make clipons for my ZX-9 im rebuilding recently.. but realised I could get the real ones for 5 dollars US on e-bay.. sooo /shrug
Look forward to all the bike stuff as it goes along! Great forum here.. you will see everyone visits several times a day usually LOL.

I should have added, there is no such thing as a silly question, just a silly person for not asking.
We all had to start somewhere, so why not ask, and we will share our starter experiences with you.
Nothing is too obscure or ridiculous, and I am sure with the member base we have, someone has been thru it before.

Welcome to the party..... (He says as near the last one to it!!) Pretty much all the stuff has been said, there's a mine of info on the site and a reasonably large collective :borg: tm of useful nutters on here too :ddb: :smart: :ddb:
I believe the best thing to say now is..... Get your workshop ready (what workshop plans / space are you having?) and show us plenty of pic's in the 'correct topic area' (got to say that or the intro's section gets full!!)

Hi Jason and welcome to the forum,
I did some pretty extensive work on my bike some time ago, (motorbike I assume?)
One of the things I did was change all the wheel spacers internally and externally from the original steel to alloy which were then annodized.
That with titainium Allen bolts with the heads skimmed down saved quite a heck of a lot of unsprung weight, the worst weight on a vehicle.
Anyways, there's lots you can do with a metal workshop with a little inspiration......enjoy.... :thumbup:

I like that idea, always someone close by for a second opinion and if you dont like that opinion you can close the door on them and send them back to thier own side of the shop :med:

Loads of room in there.... Well there will be at first, then you start hoarding :)
There are a few storage ideas in the shop section of the board.... Would be worth viewing for some possible help with a confined area like mine ::)

I've got a compact shop 9ft by 9ft but with a little planning its amazing what you can get in it. :thumbup:
And what work you can get out of it:- as they say it's not the size that maters its what you do with it :clap:
