Title: Motor reversing
Post by: slowcoach on July 18, 2010, 02:33:21 PM
Hello, can anyone help, I have a single phase motor 240v AC 1/4hp that I want to use on my pillar drill. The problem I have is that its rotating in the wrong direction  (anticlockwise)    and I was wondering if anyone on here as a solution to my problem? I have tried reversing the polarities but it still runs anticlockwise  :bang:

Cheers
Rob

IF the motor can be reversed there will be a wiring chart usually on the motor or inside the wiring box for the motor. If you don't see that you probably have a single direction motor. Turn it around and mount it on the other side of the belt if possible is your only option.

I was going to say flip it 180º. May be the same thing Dan suggested.

take the ends off and swap them over so the shaft sticks out the other end

If it has a capacitor it can be reversed by reversing the connections to the starter windings,  it is a job for someone who can open it up and figure out how to do it.

Yep, same thing but you described it in a more elegant fashion.  :D

Thank you, for all you excellent suggestions  Mr Swift, I really must thank you for your wiring diagram that you posted, I followed it, and I'm pleased to say it worked a treat  :headbang: Pillar drill now spinning in the correct direction  :D I must admit, I was a bit nervous as I flicked the switch  :zap:

Thanks again Guys

If we're into piccys of tape libraries ...

This is one I used to work on ..

Although I think the AML/2 is obsolete now, huge thing ... handling robot not to be trifled with .. unless you like coming second .. posthumously ..
