Title: Source for graphite piston material
Post by: Chuck in E. TN on January 22, 2013, 03:09:23 PM
I need a US source for 1” (finished)dia. Graphite for pistons for a couple of flame eaters I want to make.
Where do you get your graphite? Will this work?

Hi Chuck,

I get my graphite of ebay. I would go slightly larger than 1" if that is the finished size you need.

If you know someone who works in a power plant, ask if they can get you a couple of carbon brushes, they will be just the job. By the way, they are solid blocks called brushes!

Die sinker EDM's use graphite as electrodes - I have a box of it for my Eurospark 425 but I'm the other side of the pond from you!

Thanks anyway, Andrew. A mate over here came through and sent me a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 3" chunk. Should do several engines.
