Title: Spotting drill
Post by: -steves- on November 02, 2011, 05:50:22 AM
I recently ordered a couple of spotting drills from Ebay on some advice.

not knowing what these look like I was somewhat suprised when I saw 2 of these below. I was expecting something more like in the description picture. Are these spotting drills as they look like 3 flute end mills to me?
I was expecting this...

And got these??

The seller is now showing, 0 available / 10 sold..........  Hmmm..........

There are a few others available, from other sellers. At slightly higher overall cost.

Yep, ya got end mills. I use a #00 countersink in my small precision drill press fro spotting. Way more stiffness than trying to drill with a #80 drill without spotting, especially on a curved surface. The drill will wander all over, while the center drill is stiff enough to spot without wandering.
