Title: molding sand
Post by: ironman on June 29, 2012, 03:43:25 AM
How do you mix your sand? I used to do it by hand  until I built a cupola it took to long so I made a simple mixer. I also make my own molding sand click onto these links to see how I do it.

My home foundry is in wraps at the moment, but when I was up and runnng, I had a very large 'chest drill' that turns at a few hundred rpm with a paint mixer paddle in the chuck. Worked very well for sodium silicate and dry sand mixing. For green sand I hand riddled it and sieved it into the moulding box.

Hi Ironman - I see you have made a muller to mix your sand but I wonder how an ordinary cement mixer would work?  Nice muller by the way!
