Lidl in the UK has an item on offer from the 18th of this month that could be very useful in the shop.

Don't even look at the taps and dies that are on offer at the same time, unless you are threading bars of chocolate to hang on the tree at christmas.

I bought a similar one over here for the crane I built. It's been up for about year and it's still going strong.
Mine is rated at 500kg, but is only used to lift vises, rotary tables, etc. The only thing I changed was the hook and I put the control on a home made festoon with a spring balancer.

Rob, get one and throw all the winch drum away and all the clutter, the motor and reduction unit will make the basics for an ace filing machine or drive for a metal cutting bandsaw. At that price you can't go wrong.

I got one of those eBay units to put my lathe on it's stand.
From memory, I paid around $60 for it.
It would have been cheaper (and safer) to buy a few slabs of beer and invite some friends around :beer:

I bought the winch on ebay about 3 years ago and mounted it on a monorail that runs the length of the shed, saves a lot of hassles (and hernias) :)

I have modded a couple of these for use as a power dolly for moving my boat/trailer around my home. I will get some pictures made and Start a thread in the "New From Old" Forum.

Can anyone confirm exactly which bits you get with this, is it just the winch part or does it include the upright pole and some sort of stand as well ?

I got two boxes with mine the winch in one box and the pole/stand thing in another box.

I couldn't manage to get there on thursday, so I suspect they have now all gone. But they usually have them come up again some time in the future.
Is the support pole free standing, or is it fixed to the wall?

You DO NOT get the vertical pole, just the arm, clamp with pivot and a diagonal brace, you have to find your own 48mm pole to fix it to. Oh and the winch in another box

Thanks Jason, I have a load of scaffold tube at the back of the shop, if it is the right diameter.
My problem is that because I use the walls for mounting all my tooling, the only way I can do it is a pole from floor to ceiling. So that lift will be ideal.
I do have a wheelchair lift kindly donated by Peter (HS93), but that works on the leadscrew and nut method, and has a cantilever arm that goes up and down, and so requires room to manoeuvre, but should mount rather nicely to the mill main casting for lifting vices etc on and off, then just left suspended in mid air, but swung out of the way.

John you could use a couple of Kee Clamp fittings to fix a shorter pole to the wall provided they are upto the job they do 48.3mm fittings and scaffold is about 48.2. Or just weld up something similar.
