Title: What Insert is This???
Post by: ibuildstuff4u on March 11, 2013, 03:52:06 PM
My new lathe came with some nice indexable tool holders but I don't know what size the inserts are to order replacements.  The tool holders are 1/2" shaft and to me the inserts look like DCMT or DCGT 21.51?  The insert has an IC 20 printed on the top and I have included some measurements in the photo below.  I placed it next to a TNMG 322 insert for size comparison.
I would like to buy some replacement inserts cutting aluminum if someone has any suggested types.
The square insert also came with the lathe and I'm interested to know what type of insert this is too if any one knows.

Thanks for the help!!!

I just found a chart showing the size of a 21.51 insert and 32.51 insert and appears to be a 32.51 .  Dam I wish I knew more about inserts and their different codes.  Looks like a DCGT, DCMT, DCGW, DCET insert all have the same profile, just made for different uses?

What is the difference between a 32.51 and a 11T3 ?

Thank you!  That's just what I needed and answers a lot of questions I had about how inserts were coded.

Thanks again,

Kind Sir;

Check out carbidedepot.com/resources.htm.  Go to milling, tech notes.

They sure explained a lot for me.

Good luck.                             :coffee:
