A friend of mine showed me his DI that sat in a magnetic base on the lathe bed. I wanted to do one that was one piece.
I found this at woodcraft, a digital caliper magnetic clamp.

I turned down the top face and turned out a hole =in the DI backplate and it taper fits in the hole.
