Title: 8/6 split rims
Post by: ilia-45 on July 16, 2011, 10:18:09 AM
So, a little background, for a project I needed wheels, I found and bought a wonderful rims and when I started to look for the tiers i understood that it does not suit me as well, too big, freshly bought rims I had to return and two weeks to beat out a check for the paid .......
Then I went the other way, I went in search of a suitable tiers, and found aircraft wheel 6/8 is "what the doctor ordered",but to my regret the normal rims of this size do not produce, just cast or tin, plus I needed to spread a little wider wheels so as new tires wider than the previous.
Naturally I decided to make my own rims :ddb:

Actually the story of my process  in Photos
Tin on the first and last pics it oreginalny rim.

Are the bolts around the outside for looks or are they functional?

Something tells me that this way to make rims isn't new, but it's definitely new to me!  Thanks for putting that bug in my head for future priojects. :)

Would you think that with a gasket between the two halves you could go tubeless?  Seems to me that would making mounting tires very easy with no special equipment too.

Bolts around are cosmetic only
It is literally split rims, they are designed for easy mounting tires with no special equipment, about the tubeless system, I'm not sure but I think it is worth trying:beer:

Unfortunately it is still far from completion, to be exact as long as it is a set of parts

Nice job and a lot of work.
Bet the blanks cost a bit.

Only done 4 3 piece wheels, never again.

I am glad that many liked it, considering that non-professional machines only complicate the job I enjoy compliments :ddb:
