Title: LTD Stirling endurance run

I built this Stirling engine for a friend.  It's to J. Senft's design with some changes to use available materials.  The power cylinder is a modified "Airpot" a commercially made dashpot using a glass cylinder and graphite piston.  My friend placed it under a glass dome with a small electric heating pad set at a very low setting, it also will run on the heat of one's hands.  It has been running continuously 24-7 for the last four years.

The fly wheels look like CD  :scratch:  are they ?.


Stirlings are one thing I've shyed away from probably due to the fact that I don't understand them  :scratch:.

I love seeing those low temp stirlings quietly doing their job.

Wow, didn't anything were out by that time?

That other one with the flys on it. Now that is marvelous. A true "fly wheel".  :D

Now, what want to know is how long could those flys go to keep that engine running?  :lol:

Bernd,
My friend said he had to dust a little graphite powder on the displacer bushing once and a while when it squeaked.  The demo engine with the "fly" wheel has had some repairs when a child bumped it off the table, surprisingly nothing major and it's back in service.

They are amazing things to watch, esp when you've built it yourself. Very little noise due to no exhaust, just 2 smooth pulses per revolution. Brilliant!
