Hi joined yesterday having only just come across this forum, I have an interest in most if not all avenues of engineering.
Amongst other things I have a Little John Mk2 Lathe (recently restored for 2nd time, owned 35 years) a Willson lathe and a Chester Lux milling machine.
I have retired from the power generation industry where I was an instrument technician.
I would like to make some "heirloom" models starting with a Stirling engine.
I have got a comprehensive woodturning set up which I want to push forward as the weather improves, looking forward to getting involved.

Hi Appletree.
If you were to design and build a small (5 Kw) three phase generator as a project, with pictures, then many of us would worship at you feet.

I can do the 5kw generator but sadly not Stirling powered, I have always been interested in Stirling engines.
Before natural gas my dad was a gas production engineer with the Gas board, he worked at the Isle of Grain making gas from oil on a site joint owned/run with BP.
As such the received the BP magazine which was very interesting, covering things as diverse as "fluidic logic" which was to be a kind of pneumatic computer and the article which captivated me about what Philips were doing with Stirling engines at the time.

welcome
I share the interest in wood turning. Currently using the Boxford to make a few things for the myford Mystro . Keeps me off the streets....
Dave Springet's arrow through the bottle trick keeps everyone amused at the club. Took 2 tea breaks to work that one out it did!

I will have to make a start now its getting a bit warmer, I have a Denford Educator (Viceroy) long bed and a short bed Viceroy both with inverters. All the gear and No Idea.

Welcome Appletree. So was that Ratcliffe-on-Soar where you worked?

Go on the AWGB (assoc british wood turners) site and see where the local club is. If no joy PM me and I'll see if I can find someone local to you.
They're generally a friendly bunch.
I can now turn a 1ft blank into an egg cup (usually!)
