Ear lobe plugs!

Glad you asked Eric
Ear lobe plugs - yikes and pain

John got it 'fire logs' made from 1/3rd paper and 2/3rds wood chips. The paper is soaked for about 12 hours mixed with a paint stirrer then the wood chips are added after soaking for 3hours again mixed together.
The mix is poured into a 'mold' (plastic sewer pipe) 300mm long x 110mm dia then squashed with a 3 ton arbor press to expel the water and compress it down to about 150mm long.
They are left to dry in the sun for 4 days -  store for the winter. Just don't let them get wet  :hammer:

That's it, my greeny bit for the Planet.  :) :) :)

Just for interest this is what Wiki says about Pap.
Pap (play /ˈpɑːp/), also known as mieliepap in South Africa, is a traditional porridge / polenta made from mielie-meal (ground maize) and a staple food of the Bantu inhabitants of South Africa (the Afrikaans word pap is taken from Dutch and simply means "porridge"). Many traditional South African dishes include pap, such as smooth maize meal porridge (also called slap pap), pap with a very thick consistency that can be held in the hand (stywe pap) and a more dry crumbly phutu pap.

Dave

My guess would be a wood log to be turned to shape on the lathe.
Any prizes for the right guess?

I started my reply but got interupted. Looks like I would have been 1/2 right but I guess no cigar.

Cheers

You could always try helium. Might be kind of tricky trying to pour it into the drum while its upside down. Also, you might want to tie it down?

Do they come in three different colours, that you chuck in the forebox to make your train go faster until it can travel in time?

If they do, someone already came up with that idea :D

This is the 'mold', the holes are to let the water escape during the press.

How about vacuum?  Easy to get it in - it sucks itself in.  The difficult bit is getting the other stuff out

Russel,
And you are right a vacuum is lighter than helium, however there is still something one can fill a barrel full of to make it lighter.

1/2 a cigar  :)

That is an easy one.... Lighter Fluid.  :palm:  I blame excessive amounts of Monty Python and Pratchett for my sense of humor. Oh and Benny Hill.

Oh fine.... Hydrogen then.    Have a blast. I think also most explosive gas known. Acetylene coming in second I think.

Don,
I'll send you a cigar - not because your answer is correct (which it isn't) but for sheer persistence  :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

I told you nothing,  I would not give you the answer so easily.

I have given the answer in one of my posts  in this thread, so the answer is there - just one word you are looking for.

You can't fill a full barel full to make it lighter. You might try emptying it instead to make it lighter.

Dave

Since my last post I've had a bit of a nap. Fortunatly for you I woke up in a good mood. I was all set to suspend you for at least 15 minutes but then I scrolled down a bit further and saw that you had given me a special drum roll. After having seen that my eyes got all watery an I don't have the heart to suspend you. I guess everyone is just going to have to put up with your carrying on a bit longer.

i would have thought filling it with holes would make it 'lighter' in all senses of the word...when the bottom rusts out, they certainly get lighter....
