Title: 1/4 scale galloway gas engine model
Post by: chuck foster on August 27, 2009, 09:24:20 PM
heres a video of a hit and miss gas engine i built awhile ago
(http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc274/aermotor8/th_MVI_2549.jpg) (http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/cc274/aermotor8/?action=view&current=MVI_2549.flv)
the castings are from richard shelly.
it has 8 inch dia flywheels, the bore and stroke are 1 1/4" x 2".
instead of a spark plug it uses an ignitor for ignition.
what you see in the video took 40 hours to make (from raw castings)
i have 6 model engines running and about 12 or 14 more to build.
i also have 5 full size engines to work on as well............i just love hit and miss engines of all sizes.

Nice work and engine .

How does that ignitor differ from spark plug ? Does it use engine's piston to produce spark?

aermotor8 thanks for the link. I've read it, but it provides only a hint of that process (and devices related). Still can't understand how it works (http://emoticons4u.com/crazy/1261.gif). Any thing that clarifies it would be appreciated.
