Title: Gmail putting notifications into spam?
Post by: mc on August 16, 2018, 06:28:34 PM
Is anybody else using Gmail finding all their forum notifications are ending up being classed as Spam?

I've just went to add an email filter to try and stop these ending up in spam, and I've just realised the email address is showing as noreply@server.com.

Could an Admin possibly change the settings, so it at least shows as coming from noreply@madmodder.net?
It probably won't stop it being flagged as spam, but it'll make emails a bit more identifiable.

I have been away from the group for some time now, I originally joined the group in 2008, now I find i am a newbie,  hmm strange.
I now have had to change my password to be able to use this service,  I'm ok with this  but I am not a newbie.
Can this be corrected please.

P.s. how do I edit my details so that I can become  Gabby again and not gabbie

Hmmm...probably because the forum software was updated at some point in the past.

I'll see what I can do.......

Hi Gabbie, I see you joined under the name Gabbie in 2017, and the username Gabby was started in 2012, not 2008, with a different email address. There are only 5 posts under Gabby. The forum software automatically labels newbie based on the number of posts, not the amount of time since registering . Did you perhaps post more frequently under a different username, maybe?

I just started getting emails from noreply@myserver.com to my Outlook address all going into spam.....
Not sure what happened....
Anyone know of an explanation? Can it be resolved?

Hi John, looks like two entirely different issues here today in one old thread. I'm notifying Eric of the noreply@myserver.com error. That looks to be a changeable setting in the SMF software.

Steve shook the tree!

I changed the default email to noreply@madmodder.net

Didn't realize it was still stuck on the old one.

Thanks John and Steve!

Still getting replies going into spam...
I went on to my pc and set up a rule to 'filter spam messages to inbox'  with madmodder domain name... But they still go into spam....

Can anyone offer any guidance?

It must be keying on something else -- possibly the "noreply" address word, or something in the body of the email itself. If we knew what it was it might be possible to change.

Are any other "noreply@......." messages coming through from other sources? Noreply is a common username for non reply messages.

Also, re. whitelisting madmodder in Outlook, does this offer any help?

Well for some time I had not been receiving notifications...( months or longer...)

Then out of the blue, emails started appearing in my Spam folder....

Tried looking at Outlook on the pc ( Outlook on my iPad is very limited ) to see if I could 'see' anything amiss....but nothing...

John have you tried adding noreply@madmodder.net to your Outlook Contacts list?

I've added the sender email address to my contacts on my iPad for now, will see what happens to further correspondance

I'd guess the current issue is GMail moved the goalposts for what gets classed as spam a while ago.

IIRC any emails that don't come from a reputable mail server (SMF by default generates emails via the web server), gmail either mark as spam, or simply blacklist the server/emails so they don't even make it to spam.

They shouldn't do that without allowing a user to whitelist a server. I don't use GMail, so I don't know what's available for user decision making. But of course they make their own rules, and decide what users can and can't do. And if they say no, well good reason to seek an alternative.

Right,

Checked again, I made a balls up of adding the madmodder sender....

So, deleted from my contacts, sent myself a pm and added the madmodder sender to my contacts list....

Now all good...

Thanks for all your help everyone..
