I am just a rough old carpenter who tries to work in metal. I have managed to make two steam engines with two boilers. I am in the process of installing one in a scale paddle steamer. I have two workshops in the basement. R.G.Y.

Hi R.G.Y.
Pull up a chair and make yourself at home. :coffee: There are lots of very knowledgeable blokes on here,so dont be afraid to ask questions if you get short of answers when machining. :smart:
Cheers Dek.
P.S. There are also a few daft ones like me.

Hi RGY,
So, a rough old carpenter eh! Well I spent many years chucking stuff in a vat, boiling it with various other stuff to hopefully get the colour the customer wanted. (bucket chemistry) I am sure that there are many and varied ex something or others in this group and our collective know how gets the job done. My avitar btw is a model paddle steamer I made from the offcuts off my son's pool deck refit plus other bits and pieces.

Sorry for the delay....
The photo was worth waiting for! What an elegant model

Thank you all. The model is 48-1 of the Glen Usk (P&A Campbell's White Funnel Fleet 1914-1964). Powered by a Chedder steam plant & sailing on a scale draft of only 1.5" I had trouble with stability. ( I didn't know any different in 2001) I solved the problem by mounting the batteries on a servo arm, and move the weight to compensate, like an aileron control on an aircraft. My latest model is of the Duke of Devonshire ( Exmouth Peir & dock Co 1896-1965) the build has a thread on the Paddleducks web site this has my own engine & boiler. Geoff

I think I should post more on this site, as I am definitely a modder, and a lot of people would say I'm mad.
Items modified on this paddle steamer include, drink cans, (ali & steel) pop bottle, broom handle, cereal box, plastic & copper plumbing fittings and curtain rail. The chest of drawers, welding & electrical wire, balsa wood and ply wood just worked not modified.

I'd love to see that! Please do.

The Paddle steamer is above, and rocking bikes in the Gallery R.G.Y.

That should take an hour or two if you look at it all. Geoff

Well no one has a remark about my boat but I know people have followed the link. Having over 300 hits :mmr: in one day. Thank you all. Geoff

Most of us tend to wander a bit on paddleducks when we follow a link to there. I spent some time going through the thread over there...
Fantastic looking steamer!!

Geoff, that's because it's a long thread, and we're slow readers. I haven't reached the end yet, myself. Fascinating stuff, showing a great combination of artistic ability and craft skills.
I bet the refuse collectors think you've gone on the wagon, now your recycling is free of beer cans!
