Title: Loughborough lathe headstock spindle
Post by: NormanV on October 11, 2013, 09:11:29 AM
The spindle on my Loughborough lathe has started running tight and I need to remove it to check the taper roller bearings. I have removed the locking ring on the rear of the spindle and slackened off the grubscrews that hold the pulley in place. When I tapped on the rear end of the spindle it felt very solid. Before I do any damage, has anyone any experience with one of these lathes who could advise me?
Thanks, Norman

The Loughborough lathe does not have any gears, it is a plain lathe.
I have temporarily solved the problem by flooding the bearing with WD40 but I would still like to dismantle it to clean and apply some grease. That will teach me not to turn wood!
