Hi
I recently had to macine six items from a length of 12mm round steel.
the original piece was 40ins long and with that overhang whipping round it could have easily bent and smashed something ( ME!)
luckily my mill is to the left of my lathe so.............
long view of the setup

and a closeup

worked a treat, totally under control.
Iv'e just noticed that my watermark is not showing up on my latest pics, anyone else noticed anything like this?
cheers

Nice workaround Roy - did you have to make the steady for the task, or did you already have it (I ask because it looks made-for-the-vice rather than made for the lathe)?

Hi
I made it just for this kind of job. It's just luck that I put the mill in the right place.
the aluminium ring is from an old video recorder head, I've got a boxfull scavenged from obsolete recorders.
I'm in the process ( read, I've ordered the metal ) :) to make a fixed and travelling steady to Harold Halls design. More on those anon.
