Post by: chipenter on August 09, 2015, 11:19:42 AM
I have recently upgraded my mill to a morse taper 3 from 2 ,I bought a set of Morse Tapper 3 collets from RDG and I can't get them tight enugh to stop them working out , is there somthing I have to do to make them gripp , I tighten them about the same as my mt2 they take some knocking to get them out .

Jeff,

I've never had any problems with MT3 collets from ArcEuro, just remember to get the right thread or another draw bar.

Same here all the MT3 ones any good were Arc.
Have a few from RGD and Chester marked wrong and don't hold.

I usually undo drawbar 1 rev and knock with 1Lb? hammer following through not even locking the quil, works every time from serious grollied up. Swap collets over and new cutter within 15 secs almost as good as R8.

Make sure the thread on your drawbar is not too short and tightening up before the collet

Looked closly with a magnifing glass and all 11 had burrs inside and out , also the insides were rough compared to the metric ones but they are a different make , knocked the burrs off with a diamond file and will check tomorrow .
