Title: Adjustable Tailstock for a 6inch Rotary Table
Post by: Meldonmech on January 25, 2013, 09:18:34 AM
Hi Guys
Just completed the patterns for the tailstock, I found the main column quite tricky, and it took me much longer than I expected. This is the most complex pattern that I have made, so it is fingers crossed. Hope it is worth the effort.

Great work David, is it aluminium or cast iron?

Managed to sort and re size some pics last night. All the castings turned out well. Pics show machining of the Column.

Meldonmech

Thank you very much for resizing the photos. I believe that by doing that more members will click on them to enlarge them because it only takes a second rather than several seconds and all or most of the photo will now fit on the page without scrolling. Previously it would be slow to load because of the size and would only show maybe 25 to 40% of the photo without scrolling.

You have also been doing a very fine job with the casting and machining of the parts. I'll be watching as this progresses.

Cheers

Nice work, my kind of tooling!

Split cotters rock! Since I discovered them I use them as much as is possible!

Hi Mathew,

Thanks for the comments, I use split cotters where ever I can, they certainly provide the best locking action.

                                                                     Cheers David

Hi Guys,
                Pic.1. Center Adjusting Handle
                Pic.2. Cutting groove in Center
                Pic.3. Tailstock assembled
Pic.4, 5, 6. Tailstock and RT, ready to machine a flat on an engine cylinder.

Well guys posting this build has been just as difficult as the pattern making, casting, and machining.

Wouldn't want to be a publisher, back in the workshop tomorrow, great.         Cheers David
