:bugeye: I've bougt two of these and for the life of me cannot see any difference to the $20 Aldi (Aus) ones
or indeed the more expensive other ebay ones, in fact I think I'll buy 2 more.

It ships from China. I wonder if customs will have a charge.

If its into Australia then no import duty applies. No GST either.
I might have to get a few of these. I paid more than that for a replacement head for a broken scale!

Here in the states, Harbor Freight has had them for sale every couple of months at a little less than the cost plus shipping in that ad. Around $6.49 last time I remember. Since he is in China he might live around the corner from the factory and buying them at a good rate.
A member form China, on another forum who makes fancy light fixtures with Swarovski type crystals. Has Said the economic down turn has hit some of the industries and locations harder than others there. And they are trying to figure out ways to move the merchandise that is already made and in warehouses waiting to fill the orders before it all went.
Like when I was making and wholesaling Magic tricks, I told somebody I could sell 20 at a show and make a buck each, Or I could make .50¢ each and sell 60 or 70. Some times the numbers only work when the profit is slim!

Make sure you get a lot of batteries with them. They seem to eat batteries like crazy.

Hi Tel,
These are $3 AU plus $5.50 shipping to AU and other places. No box but that doesn't bother me.

I bought some replacement heads for a caliper/scale and paid nearly as much as for a new caliper!

Thanks for the link to the calipers, I've ordered a couple.
I'll try to modify one for the Y axis on my mill, at that price I can afford to fail.

I've ordered a couple as well, at this price it's hard to refuse.

According to what I have found the short battery life is due to using alkaline batteries. Here is a discussion of alkaline vs. silver oxide. Silver oxide batteries are suspose to have a much longer life.

I also found these S/O batteries on Ebay.
