Title: Silver soldering
Post by: Brass_Machine on January 08, 2011, 11:35:35 PM
I got a bunch of this stuff: Harris stay-silv (https://weldingsupply.securesites.com/cgi-bin/einstein.pl?PNUM::1:UNDEF:X:61035). 4 bundles worth. I know 3 are the 15 and 1 is the 6. Is this stuff good for doing the silver soldering we do as modelers?

Not really, its a low silver content solder used mostly for refridgeration pipes etc and has about 2% silver.  For boiler work you want to be looking at 42% or above.

It may well do for tacking a few low stress items together for fabrication work or low pressure pipework on air engines etc.
