Title: Taig / Peatol Tool Post dimensions ?
Post by: raynerd on January 28, 2011, 02:26:56 PM
Hi, I am missing the tool post from a taig / peatol lathe. Although I could easily go and purchase one for £12, I expect from my stock of scrap materials I could make one. Could anyone provide me with dimensions of the supplied tool post ?

I`d really appreciate it!

Excellent, thanks a lot! The centre bolt is just straight through to the T-nuts ?

I love my quick change tool post on my boxford and was considering one for the little taig, I don`t have lots of tool posts for my boxford but I have my 3 main tools, turning, boring and parting and then a spare one. I was thinking, these blocks seem each enough to make, do you think it would be quicker to make a few full tool posts??!

I have about 12 tool posts at the moment!

i thought about a QC toolpost but thought that to change the whole thing it just loosen one bolt and there so easy to make.   And you will find that to make full use of the cross slide you will have to move the whole post up &down as the slide has limited travel on turning 'big bits'

Diferent ones i'v been playing with

I drilled a hole on the opposite side of my post for a boring bar. you could add another slot for quick tool changes.

Some very nice ideas there, I will certainly be making a boring bar holder. It is a good idea to have a slot at each side for quicker changes.
Steve, what material are your posts, ally or steel?

Ally  same as original from taig.

the amount you can cut at a time it seems ok with very little spring.

What i'm going to try next is a angled tool post but i will find the posts on the other site so you can have a look

Steve
