I picked my car up from the local garage on Friday after having a leaking power steering hose replaced, The bill was enough to put anyone in a bad mood, I mean £200 to change a rubber hose...come on, something is very wrong here.
To make matters, or me, even worse the clutch cable went driving it back home..... :hammer: And the garage is only across the road. I barely got the car back.
So now I have my car on my drive and can't move it, my drive is quite steep downhill so no rolling or pushing the car back to the garage.
I was having a quick private chat with Ralph about it and he said to me, "make a new part, that's what we have machines for"
Quite right he was too, this is what I did.
The broken piece, it's upside down here. The bit missing hooks over the clutch pedal.

Now I wasn't looking for finesse here, just a bodge till a new cable could be fitted. This is what I made up, a bent flat bar, a 4" nail, SS welding wire and a plastic insert.

It worked, in fact it works so well I might leave it as is and forget about having a new cable :nrocks:

Just had a look at the Autodata book for the time given to change the cable on your car...... 1.5 hours!!! So you have saved yourself at least that in labour @ between £50 - £100/hr....
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together...

Tools make tools, that make more tools that fix things
A lot of the engine mounts on Gavin our Mini were made by myself, there a lot stronger than the factory fitted mounts, I think they will outlast the rest of the car. :thumbup:

Aw yes, done quite a bit of fixing like that to. Does make one feel good. :ddb:
I usally take it back to the shop and show them what I did just to piss them off a bit. Of course next time I need to get something fixed it costs me a bit more. :hammer:
