Title: 1/8" ID Ball Races (Bearings) - UK Supplier?
Post by: raynerd on May 27, 2011, 10:06:57 AM
Hi guys,
I`m after five x  1/8" ID Bearings - ideally the spec in the plans is 1/8" ID, 3/8"OD and 7/64" width. I`ve searched now for near 2 hours over the last week and I found one supplier who wanted £10 per bearing, with 5 to purchase I just can`t afford £50!!  I`ve tried all the usual suspects, bearings boys, simply bearings (although struggled as their site was slow) and ebay with no luck.

I don`t know if anyone knows a good stockest who might have them. I`m not looking for the exact spec, obviously the 1/8" ID is critical but I can fit around the other dimensions.

I know imperial are likely to be more than metric sizes but I can`t justify paying silly prices when I can get 3mm ID bearings cheap. Obviously then I have to start changing plans and I don`t fancy that with this built, especially in 5 different places where the bearings fit!

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Chris

Arceuro?

Doesn't look like they've quite got that size - but some fairly close.

Bearing station have some for £5.33/ea, albeit with a fatness of 5/32" rather than the 7/64" you'd prefer. Still not cheap, I'll grant you, I guess imperial bearings must have gone right out of fashion.

Chris -- The standard for American R-type bearings is .125 (1/8) ID X .375 (3/8) OD X .156 (5/32) W.  At 7/64 (.109) W, the bearing ball is going to be quite small and have a very large Hertzian contact stress multiplier.  I have to go back to 1977 to find a 7/64 W bearing listed in a catalog (and I have 2 ft worth of bearing catalogs on my bookshelf).  IF you can accommodate the extra 3/64 (.047) width, I would change to an R-type (deep groove, inch measure) ball bearing.  They run about $3.75-$4.00 ($1.60/L) at booth of my local bearing houses.

Have a look here http://www.vxb.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=bearings&Category_Code=1-8inch.

Lots of 10 at reasonable price. Have ordered from them in the past and the shipping to Spain was low.

You must be rich, the price of them. you should try  http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Dinball/Bearings-parts-/_i.html?_fsub=7867823&_sc=1&_sid=42095710&_sop=1&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 if you want them in 10s they have thenm to the uk in under 5 days

But I  would use tecknobots if i wanted them in a hury they tend to do next day and are also cheap and great to deal with they have some handy adio equipment like MP3 player boards.

Only two in the UK that I know of

http://www.technobotsonline.com/miniature-model-bearing-r2zz-1-8-x-3-8-x-5-32.html

http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/Heli%20cylindrical.htm

The second suppliers parts tend to be of higher quality but is you need 1/8th you are paying for it.

Hope this helps

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for all your replies to this thread. I posted it last week before I went away on holiday and although I read through your replies while I was away, it was too difficult typing on the internet connection I had! So thanks for all the links, they were just what I needed and thanks to Clive I now own the 5 that I need along with another 7 for the "bearings" drawer :D   :mmr: :mmr:

Cheers Clive!   and thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

All the best
Chris
