Hi
This was inspired by Webbys introductions post - I was going to reply on there and realised that I hadn`t even introduced myself.
I joined a few weeks ago after seeing a few of Ralphs (DividedHead) videos on youtube with a link to here from one of them. I have just purchased a lathe a clarke cl300m with the intention to move into some machining and assist me with my hobby in fountain pen repair.
I have always been into the idea of machining and owned a Unimat 3 a few years ago at university. I am 25 y/o, I teach Chemistry at A level, 16-18 y/o and science at KS3/KS4 (11-16 y/o). I have always been obsessed with science and technology and hence my interest in machining. I am married with a beautiful 6 month old daughter.
As I have said, I have tried this once before but tried to sprint before I could even crawl (in embarrassment I shall tell you that my first project was J. Wildings - Gearless Clock). Apparently, it is a relatively easy build ....... if you are an experienced machinist, with a good understanding of clock mechanics and are capable of cutting gears! :bang: I think perhaps my constant questions on here seem to indicate that I am trying to do similar again but this time I realise my capabilities and most of my questions are to gain understanding for interest rather than to go ahead in practice.
I have already been in touch with a few members and met John and Stew at Johns workshop with plans to visit Ralph in the near future. This seems an excellent forum with helpful and willing members - I hope I learn a lot .....

Chris,
Official welcome then. :borg: The collective has already assimilated you so your in. :nrocks:
You've come to the right place to learn. I've been in the mchining end of it since I graduated from high school (over 30 yrs and now have been retired for nearly 10) I finally got my Bridgeport that I always wanted and I'm negotiating with the CFO (SWMBO) for a larger lathe. :)
You'll learn a lot here just by watching and asking. Sometimes I think Bogs here is head teacher. You gotta' love the guy. Great projects and instructions and many years of experince.
Glad you really like it here and hope you catch :proj: instead of "swine flu". :D
Regards,
Bernd
