Has anyone got the instruction sheet for an Eclipse No. 39 drill sharpener? If so I'd appreciate a scan.
(Before anyone tells me that the instructions are in the photo - the photo was pinched off eBay!)
Cheers.

Message the seller and beg a copy. I've done this a few times and have always had a positive ressponse.
-
Thanks Andrew,
I've just messaged the seller via eBay.
[Edit: The seller is happy to send me a photo of the instructions. When it arrives I'll post it in case anyone else ever needs a copy.]
Cheers.

Hi,
Sorry but I couldn't find any illustrations but I did find text instructions.
Assembly
Remove small chrome plated screw from strut. Assemble struct
into body. Fit screw and tighten up.
Instruction for use
1 Hold strut with V channel uppermost.
2 Release back stop and slide to end of strut
3 Loosen drill clamping screw
4 Insert dril into V strut with point away from back stop. Hold drill
in V with thumb. Upturn sharpener to bring drill point into view, align
one cutting edge parallel to and flush with front gauge, which is
adjustable for different drill size.
5 Lightly tighten drill clamping screw
6 Swing aside back stop shim and slide back stop into contact with
the drill shank and tighten
7 Swing shim back into V. This will advance drill the required amount
for sharpening.
8 Check that the drill is still correctly aligned with front gauge and
fully tighten drill clamping screw
9 With one hand hold sharpener between thunmb and finger in side
recesses and with the other hand hold abrasive paper on a smooth flat
surface
10 Roll sharpener up and down the full lenght of the abrasive paper
until cutting ceases
11 Fully release drill clamping screw rotate drill 180 and align second
cutting edge with front gauge
12 Ensure drill shank is in contact with back stop shim and tighen
drill clamp screw.
13 Repeat sharpening action
14 If drill is not completely sharpened, repeat from 6
Note
(a) use whole surface of abrasive paper
(b) do no allow wheels to slide
(c) For speed of sharpening we suggest 100 grit Aluminium Oxide
(Aloxite) paper
I hope that helps a bit?

Hi Seadog,
Thanks - but many of the links don't work and I couldn't see anything for this particular sharpener.

Hello Phil,
It works for me.
Did you get to the Model Engineering page with the discussion?
If so, you need to scroll down, the pages from the instructions are copied in the text further down.

Hi Graham,
I did scroll down but still can't see instructions for the Eclipse No 39. Plenty of instructions for Picador/Spiralux types for use with a bench grinder.
An eBay seller has promised me a photo or scan of the instructions so hopefully I'll be OK.
Cheers.
Phil.

Phil, I must apologise, for some reason I got it into my head that I was looking at a Spiralux type sharpener. A case of brain doing what it wanted to regardless of what eyes were telling it

Try this:

Thanks Seadog but I've already been sent the written instructions. I need the actual manual with pictures. Cheers. Phil.
-
Hi Phil, if you do receive the picture manual I would be pleased if you would forward a copy to me.
It is a bit confusing trying to work from the written instructions.

Are you on any other forums, Mig-Welding, for example? If not I can ask on there for you.

I've asked on Homeworkshop and the seller of one on eBay has promised me a copy (but it's not arrived yet!)
Thanks for offering.

I have tried looking everywhere I can think of but still havent found a readable instruction sheet for the Eclipse 39.

Thanks John,
Someone on HomeWorkshop sent me a photo - unfortunately the right hand side of the instructions is missing from the photo.
An eBay seller promised me a photo or scan but that hasn't materialised!
How useful the sharpener is I don't know and, it seems, I'm unlikely to find out!
Cheers.

Phil, I had one last search and came up with this, a book called Sharpening Common Workshop Tools by Dr Marcus Bowman..
There is a chapter about the Eclipse 39, a description and pictures about how to use it.
Go to Google books and search for Sharpening Common Workshop Tools. Click on the title and scroll down for a long way and you'll find the information.
Hope this works for you.

Hi John,
That looks a very interesting book - thanks.
However my preview of the book runs out well before the Eclipse No39 gets a mention and I would need to spend £12.99 for the eBook.
Cheers.

Interesting, I have not bought the book and can view all the pages about the 39.
John
-
Just maybe I could send you the relevent info if I can find a way to do this.

Hi John,
Maybe the Preview selects random pages. I'll try my phone and laptop to see if I get to see the relevant pages.
Cheers.
Phil.

Hi John,
I tried on my laptop and get the same "No preview available for this page" message.
Phil.

Hi Phil,
Try this link. It works for me and is the complete book not just about the 39.

Hi John,
Still the same result for me. Just 55 pages are shown and then a message: "Pages 56 to 598 are not shown in this preview."
Are you sure you've not inadvertently bought it?
Cheers.
Phil.

You could take screenshots and email them.
-
Phil, this is becoming a bit of a farce, I can read the whole book using the last link I sent you.
What I could do for you is email the relevent pages if this would be a solution.
John

You could take screenshots and email them.
Yes Tom, this is what I've just suggested. It is all a bit strange but that's computing for you.
John
-
Tom, I forgot to ask if you can see the book using the last web link.
John
-
Hi John, That would be excellent. I'll message my email address. Cheers. Phil.

Phil, email sent.

Many thanks John.
That makes things clear.
