Andy only lived a few miles from me and visited me a couple of years ago to pick up a compressor. I'm shocked and very sad to hear of his demise. :(
I told him about the Great Race (a Penny Farthing race held only once every 10 years locally to Andy and myself). He'd never heard about it and had just missed the last one (in late 2010). He was looking forward to the next in 2020 - he'll never get to see it now!
Phil.

Also visited him on a few occasions and what a nice chap - he will be missed.

Yes really sad news. His contributions were always constructive. Do we know if he had had a long term illness or was it sudden?
-
My condolences to Andys family and friends. Andy will be missed by all with his pleasant and helpful ways. Our thoughts are with you.
Rest in peace Andy

I just found Andy's reply to me re "The Great Race" in May 2012:
"Phil,
I never knew that race took place, and I've lived most of my life in Sale, only 10 miles away! Whereabouts in Knutsford do they hold it, in case I reach the age of 73?
That reminds me - it's Preston Gulid this year. I went to it in 1952, 1972 and 1992, so I suppose I may as well keep my attendance up, particularly as it is very unlikely I will make the 2032 event
Andy"
I didn't think anything of it at the time but now it makes me wonder..............

Very sad news indeed, I met Andy last year, he was one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He was always willing to lend a hand - or a tool - and never ever wanted anything in return. He will be sadly missed.

Sad news.
My condolences to Andys family and friends. Andy will be missed.

Though I did not know him and am a relative newcomer to MM, he was kind and encouraging to me in a recent comment in a casting thread, and it seems that was his way. Very sorry to hear of his loss.

Very sad news, sending my deepest condolences to his family.

Some more information:
The funeral is at Altrincham Crematorium, WA14 5RH at 11.00am Thursday 15 August.
Donations if desired to Cancer Research UK c/o Arthur Gresty Funeral Homes, 305 Manchester Road, Altrincham, WA14 5PH.
I wish I could go.
A request has come my way...
On another matter I would be grateful if you could see whether any Madmodder members who know the other forums he posted on can assist by advising those forums as it is difficult when someone just disappears. Although his real name was F. Andrew Crompton I think that he may have used other posting names like Andy F and Andrew Franks, fairly certain that he was on the mini-lathe forum and I think that there may have been others. It is a new problem for our age when the address book can be on the computer and there is no paper trail of correspondence in circumstances such as these.
Thanks
Eric

So presumably he died of cancer ?

Just spotted this very sad bit of news. Andy had promised to visit me on a few occasions, but had to spend a fair bit of time looking after his mother-in-law and never managed to visit me. Eric, I know Andy posted on www.model-engineer.co.uk where he exchanged many PM's with me. R.I.P. Andy.

So presumably he died of cancer ?
As far as I know, the cause is still undetermined and the donations are in memory of his wife.
