Nice job on the tools!

Fixed a tag in your post so both pictures show.

Hi Grinder,

They are two nice pieces of tooling you've made. I particularly like the vice!

Very nice job on both pieces. They will both come in very handy on a lot of your future projects. Thanks for sharing them with us.  :D :D

Cheers

Both pieces look excellent      IŽd want a small V-groove in one or both of my vise jaws (both a horizontal as well as a vertical). It comes handy when mounting round workpieces.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the encouraging comments, I feel like part of the group now. Thanks to Eric too, for linking my pics, (how did you do that?)
There are a few more projects that I'm working on now. I have a number of end mills that have seen better days, and I just started designing a fixture to hold them to the mill table so I can grind them. I'll post some pictures as I work through it. BTW I found the plans for the milling vice on the web at http://www.deansphotographica.com/ (http://www.deansphotographica.com/).

Ya, well maybe I'm trying to deceive myself. I get depressed just thinking about not being able to get them done in this life time.

I though about that, but decided to leave the faces flat. I have some small "V" blocks that I can use if I need to. McMaster-Carr have some "V" blocks only 1" on the side

Looks good!

Did you get the dovetail cutter idea from the CNCCookbook page? I just read that bit last week and thought it was a pretty good idea. http://www.cnccookbook.com/MTMillDovetail.htm (http://www.cnccookbook.com/MTMillDovetail.htm)

All it needs is a polishing and gun-blueing and call er done!

yes, mini V blocks are even better, in that you can also use them at an angle. Jaw Vees are always 0 or 90 deg to the quill. (Unless you tilt the whole vise - not a good idea...)

Hi Paul,

The website you mentioned did give me the idea, but I had a problem with the radius. If you look at the diagrams, you'll see that the trailing edge of the cutter actually sticks out farther than the cutting edge. To overcome this problem, you have to cut the backside of the mount shallower then is shown. The idea being to get the cutting edge farther out than the trailing edge. I realized this was a problem after I made my first one. With proper relief, it works great!
