Title: What to look for in a plasma cutter
Post by: Will_D on January 30, 2016, 07:54:21 AM
Spring is a comming and the urge for new tools is on me!

Hope someone can clear up a few questions on plasmas:

How do PCs start cutting? Some models talk about High Frequency starts other about touching the work piece. Is this like TIG i.e. Scratch starting on the cheaper models? HF on the better end?

How do you tell if the machine is fitted with a low pressure safety cutout (Do Rtechs have this, what about the CUT nn range of machines.

What about the SIP range?

Any one bought from the German Stahlwerk on e-b?

Obviously need an air dryer and recomendations.

I have Retch 40amp plasma cutter it has low pressure cut of and its HF start I wouldn't get a scratch start, I've cut 15mm with mine but its pushing it so a easy 12mm cut and believe me it makes life a lot easier.

Bought a really cheap Chinese machine from local farm shop as it was just for one job cutting stainless steel.  It has HF start and to be honest has never let me down, had it about 5yrs now !!!   Must have been a lucky one.

 :D

Ha, guess I should have said farm supply shop.  Lot of iron in our soil so the plasma is ideal for slicing carrots.
