Temporarily set upon the milling machine bed for a trial run (this accounts for the odd angle of the cutter frame).

Did you make your own spindles for the fly cutter and cross drilling attachment  what power are the auxillary motors and just one last question were they difficult to source, the reason I'm asking is I have a project in mind.

I made the cutter frame to the design at www.ornamentalroseengine.com (http://www.ornamentalroseengine.com) modified to fit the bearings I had. The spindle is mild steel, cross drilled for the tool & grub screw then the bearings pressed on. The motor is a 1/10hp cap start by Ranco, it has seen better days and I shall be replacing it if I can dig out something suitable from the 'stores'.
The compound table was an epay purchase, in fact that was the only part that cost real money, everything else is recycled or stuff I had in the workshop.

Now for the million dollar question.

With the setup you have, would it cut non ferrous metals?

Just bought 1/10 Hp motor that does 6000 revs off fleabay, the project i've in mind needs high revs.

I made it for woodwork but my mentor in things OT says it is robust enough to at least do line work on brass, NS etc. Will have to have go & see what happens
