Title: Cutting Helical Gears
Post by: cfellows on February 26, 2011, 05:32:45 PM
Those of you interested in cutting helical gears might find this interesting.  I have posted this elswhere, but it may be new to many members of this board.

It's a fixture I designed and built to cut helical gears.  It will cut gears of any helix angle and pretty much any pitch, as long as you have the correct gear cutters.  The videos show how to make two gears which mate at 90 degrees to each other and the driven gear turns at 1/2 the speed of the driving.  I've also included a video of the finished gears.  I'm also attaching a PDF file which gives the basics of helical gear cutting and drawings of the fixture.
