Title: 7.5" Gauge Riding Car Trucks

Here's my recent shop handy work. A set of Wheel Trucks for use on a 7.5" gauge riding car. Not sure if the car will be a gondola or a flat car but I guess I will decide once I get the wheels and axles turned up on the lathe. The trucks themselves are machined from 1/2" 6061-T6 bar stock. The springs are pocketed into place and were cut from stock and ground flat( not all installed as they are a pain in my fingers to keep putting in and taking out as I work on adding pieces), there are 4 each side and will allow reasonable springiness under a variety of loads from 200~400lbs

Eventually I plan to build a steam locomotive to pull it but I thought an easy project was in order to get started.............I like easy!

Let me guess, you CNCed those frames?

I'm into 1 1/2" live steam also. I've got castings to build a 1 1/2" scale Shay.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out. I've heard from the guys in the local steam club that while SHAY's are very neat they are terribly slow on the track..........being relatively young I have the need for a little more speed!

Nice looking trucks, at 7 1/2" there should be plenty of space to work round, I'll be interested to see how you fix the bracking system. Just spent the day at my club track helping to service and maintain the clubs 5" gauge rolling stock, they're a bit fiddly to work round, nuts and bolts in alsorts of hard to get to places. :borg:

Ok, I'm a bit confused right now. :scratch: Are you saying you did CNC those or they were bought and you made the bolster? By the way, it's easy to confuse me. :)

Yes they are slow. I've never seen a model version in person. I have ridden on the Cass Railway and know they sound like a jet engine about to take off, when in reality they are only going about 10MPH.

I can understand the need for speed. I was young once too. :D

One of my new co-workers is into live steam. Not sure of the scale, but he does belong to a club. Got an invite to go up and take a ride in warmer weather.

I haven't been here in ages and I really don't know where the time goes! Actually found my posts on a GOOGLE search for something else Geez!

Anyway now that I have a loco I can start running at the local club track!

I hope to get the engine at the track soon and will take some pics and possibly video when I run it. Been really rainy weather for some time and nice weather never seems to correspond with free time for the track
In the meantime heres a shot of it under construction before the cab work was complete.
