I started this Roller Bender in 1998. I finished it last year ........ so I'm a bit slow :) . 14 years doesn't time fly :)
The design is from the book 'The Model Engineers Workshop Manual' by Geo.H. Thomas. I bet Fergus OMore will like this, albeit not a lot
I changed the design slightly just to make it easier and quicker for me to make. I certainly could not improve on the design.

The top roller is removable so closed rings can be made.

This is why I made these rollers in the first place to make some copper rings

Although it was not finished it was usable and I made 100's of those rings.
It didn't have a proper handle so I decided in a rush of blood to the head to make one.
This was the makeshift handle I used for about 10 years or so.

Dave, I have exactly the same build.
Mine in some ways took longer and in others MUCH shorter.
Shorter as I said Yes when asked if I'd like it :ddb:
Longer in that a friend's brother made it not long after George Thomas wrote the article

Beautiful job Dave!

Dave
I hate to ask this question but someone has to ask it. How long do you figure it would have taken you to build it if you had not redesigned it to make it quicker and easier?
Looks like you did a good job on it. :D :D
Cheers

Thanks Don,

Why am I laughing ............. that's not funny
It was the handle that took so long ...... it was a bit 'tricky' .......... that plastic stuff.

Nice handle, Nice job. Now that you can stroke that one off the list of things to finish, what comes next? You're on a roll, so you gotta keep going.   :D :D

Well made Dave. Looks like an ideal machine for hobbyists. Now another book to add to my growing collection. Hope I live long enough to make all these toys AND use them :proj:

Hey Dave... That looks very nice. You did a great job. What did you use on the finish? Paint?
I think I have to get that book.

Thank you guys.
Eric, the paint was from a 'rattle can' nothing special. I use the same 'shiny metal' lens as Rob uses only I adjusted it to 'make the paint look good'. I think the photo's do flatter it a little. The colour is from my psychedelic days  (Flower power)
The link Dave BC has shown is from the book.
Just to say it isn't difficult to make - more of a marking out exercise of the two end plates.
For the rollers I just used standard size silver steel bar. (Drill rod)

Nothing good, is ever made in a hurry!
Escape after sitting on a fire ant nest, or the sight of the Mrs. writing a list of chores excepted,
-
I like it. I'm going to make a larger one with 2.5" steel round bar.
Oh, I'm swiping your design too.
-
Looks much better with the proper handle, and more comfortable I suspect.
Nice job Cheers David

Very nice
-
Nice job there Dave H, I could do with a set of them in my shop.
Coupled with a resistance welder it would be really useful to make short sections of seam welded tube/bush housings
-
Very, very nice Dave. Like the subtle shade of purple as well!

Just to mention it's not my design. The design is from the book 'The Model Engineers Workshop Manual' by Geo.H. Thomas.
