20 people looked but not even one comment. hmmmm....

Sorry John,
I did look earlier, but thought I'd give myself some time before commenting....I'm not the quickest kid on the block you know... :ddb:
Despite spending the day doing building work, I've come back to it and still I'm none the wiser....
But that's not saying much as it's a common result these days :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

Edit,
is it a go, no go?

Very good
I think

Very good John,
I have one to make for when I display at the shows, they really baffle the kids.
Mine will be made with hex bar though, even the nut will be the same size of hex. Doing it that way makes it look even more puzzling.
John

Ah, it's one of those how did I get the nut on there thingamagig..... :ddb:
-
Bogs, the best one I have seen with a plain bar only just big enough to cut the thread, the thread just stopped dead at each end there being no end of thread landing zone. Nicely cut too it was and might have been from a CNC machine.
-
This is the first time I've looked..... And I think I could do it....
Possibly not like others but if I spent the time figuring out how to set up my machine for threading I probably could?
Still..... Don't let that stop you from showing us..... After all that's what MadModder is all about, showing what and how
Looks like fun :)

Can I give it away?
I know how it's done. :smart:

Me too, had to think about it though...

Hey John...
Worry not about the views with no comments. We get a lot of guests and spiders viewing and indexing the board. Those guys can't post.
Now on to the thingamajig... I think I know how it is done... not sure though. Answer me this, can the nut be spun up and down?
Eric
-
Oh yes Eric, the nut runs the full length of the threaded portion. :med:
-
I made one of those a while back. I bring it out mostly for adults to confuse them because nobody can make anything like that. :)

Hmmmmm.......
Never seen one of those before! ::)

Looks like the 'bangers' we used to make as kids… two bolts, a nut to join them and a few shavings of match heads. Throw it up into the air and wait for the explosion :ddb:
This however, looks far too refined for that :D

This one does not come apart that way Jerry.

Ho happy day's
That's the sort of thing I was always up to

Part is actually 3 pieces. 2 piece shaft and a nut. Bore end of 1 piece of shaft and thread internally.
Turn smaller dia on other shaft and thread to match bore on other shaft. Screw together, then single point thread outer dia on lathe. Take apart, add nut to match thread on outer dia then screw shaft back together. Voila captive nut! ::)
Hope I didn't rain on anyones parade.
