Post by: sbwhart on August 28, 2011, 03:26:20 PM
My wife and I had  a trip on the Settle to Carlyle railway last week, here's a few pics of the trip

Our train.

Don't you just love the valve gear

And it was built in the best place

I wonder how much of my families hard work is in it.

It was a large train all the carriages were full and the catering very good.

It looks like this wasn't the only charter work it does.

I love the old railway buildings

The scenery wasn't half bad either.

Truly a grand day out, Stew. Your first pic takes me back; my Nana lived in Preston, and when I was foisted on to her in the '50s while my parents were on holiday abroad, she used to take me there. Friendly shunter drivers would haiul me up on the footplate for brief rides. There was a brass model of The Rocket where you could insert a penny and watch the wheels go round, and a sort of early Dymo printer which impressed your name letter by letter on a thin aluminium strip for another penny. A garden of delights for me at age 7 or 8. Not sure what Nana got out of it, though, apart from an hour or so in the station buffet while I wandered around.

Have you a link for Settle to Carlisle steam trips?
