I think I saw this on John Moran's (Gadgetbuilder) website. You guys may already know this but I thought I'd post it anyway in case anybody's having parting sorrow. A simple mod but very effective!
Just grind a chip breaker radius into the top of your HSS parting blade with a small stone in a Dremel tool and hone the cutting edge SHARP. The results are amazing. Tiny, tight little curls of swarf and the blade just plain walks through the stock.

Not to toot my own horn here, but I get those little curls without the chip breaker.
I know. I've got to prove it now right?

Naah, I'm just happy my parting is going well. You must be using one o'them high-dollar insert parting tools?

Lovely Curls you made their.
Used to work with a chap we called Lenny the curler, he could part a 1" bar off in one curl.
Have fun

Yup, if I had power cross-feed on my lathe, the chip would continue winding up until it got so big & heavy it fell off.;)

Nope. HSS tool in a QC tool post. The secrete is getting it square to the work and a bit of "Tap Magic". You know how many I broke before I could do that.

Mine does too for Aluminium. It's a nice feeling when you're getting those curls and not much noise ... like a knife through butter! It can make you over confident though haha!
