Hi all

I'm an Electronics engineer by profession but but a confirmed bogger/tinkerer by trade, into everything from cars (repairing them) (DIY house building-not fast enough for she who will be obeyed), mechanical stuff- I've got a Harrison L6 lathe , a German combinational Miller (Hor/Ver) in need of some TLC and a double garage full of other stuff (including lots of old electronic instruments which I like to repair - VVM's , Sig Gen's etc). Oh and 2 Rug Rats. One I inherited and One Manufactered!!! and of course the most expensive bit - She who will obeyed!!!!!!!!!!! :wack:

I must say what I've read so far on this site has been very interesting. looking forward to the future.

Hi Fred,

First, Welcome to the collective.  :borg:

Interesting collection of "interests". Me and you have something in common, "DYI house building". Take a look at what I'm building: The Station (http://www.kingstonemodeleng.com/MiscShop/Station/station.htm). All I wanted was a basement with a cover to house my model railroad.

Now that basement looks something like this: Messy Shop (http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=1043.0)

A thing to remember, we like lots of pictures.  :worthless:

And we hope you get  :proj: because  :mmr:  :ddb:  :nrocks:

Members, Lords, Ladies and anyone else, thank you for the comments.

Just to expand on the German milling machine, I found it in a local coal yard literally under a pile of coal. paid 50 quid for it, got it back home an spent a week digging the coal dust of it and then discovered that the shaft that drives the vertical quill is missing along with the gears although the horizontal milling shaft and gears are complete!
This was 10 years ago and just as I was collecting the parts to fix it (bearings, steel for the shafts etc) I met the wife, sold my bacholer pad (large garage and workshop + dwelling) moved into a house that has/still requires a large amount work and had a rug rat (daughter) therefore I haven't done anything to the machine.
BUT I intend to start after xmas.
PS can I put sketchs (as PDF's) on a thread as I would like to show my ideas for the repairs for members comments along with some as is photo's.

Best Regards

Fred

Sorry I haven't got around to you before to welcome you Fred.

WELCOME FRED

I am sure that the lads on here will show you how to post piccies (most of 'em can't read, so it is piccies or nothing), it would certainly be easier for you than PDF's.

 :worthless:

What part of the UK are you from Fred? As we do sometimes have little gatherings that might be within easy reach of yourself, and major machining problems can sometimes be sorted by other members for you, if you get stuck.

Within easy reach then Fred.

There are a few around here where I live in Crewe (South Cheshire).

Most probably an hours run at most, if you get stuck with anything.
