Title: Slitting Saw Arbor
Post by: Chuck in E. TN on June 02, 2011, 10:21:13 AM
I need to make an arbor for a slitting saw with 1” diameter mounting hole. How much bigger diameter arbor do I need? Will 1 1/8” material be enough or should I use 1 ¼” and why?
Arbor will be straight shank, ½” diameter, with a larger piece threaded on.

Chuck,

The answer is (as usual), "It depends."  Commercial arbors for ø1.000 mounts have a 1.375 to 1.750 OD flange.  I have a couple of homemade arbors with a 1.200 OD, though that is more a factor of having started with ø1.250 bar than any specific design intent.  We need more information (drawings?) to really advise.

Yes, I started that thread. Had problems getting Bogs C-o-C to print. Got it printed today.
