Title: Tramming a mill with a swivelling table
Post by: AcieraF3 on June 20, 2011, 03:39:09 PM
Hi all,

I am the proud owner of an Aciera F3 Mill with a swivelling table. For a while now I have tried to solve the problem of tramming the head (as such not very difficult) and level the table. These to operations are mutually interdependent and I was wondering of somebody had a good procedure to counter this.

Thanks,

Teun  :smart:

I have a swivel table as well and wrote this up for another guy last year, it might also help you out.

Dave thanks,

What I don't understand is the use of the horizontal spindle in this procedure. On my mill the horizontal spindle is independent from the vertical one and it is impossible to do some adjustments on the "tram" of the horizontal spindle.

I'm surprised there's not an alignment pin on the table tilt somewhere.

Why can't you just dial off of the V.head or overhead arm while traversing the table? (i.e. you keep the dial stationary and move the table back and forth)

Bill and Dave,

There is an alignment pin on the table. In fact there are two. However, I don't trust them immediately for levelling the table accurately.

My machine is an Aciera F3. There is good info, with pictures on www.lathes.co.uk

Cheers,

Teun
