Hey all,
I came across a page showing how to get a...
+70% increase in RPM (adjustable)
+100% increase in Torque (adjustable)
Huge increase in reliability (non adjustable)
...by creating a new Motor Controller.
Check it out here: http://www.harrisson.biz/controller/power.htm (http://www.harrisson.biz/controller/power.htm)
You will need a belt drive conversion to do this as the author states that the mod will break the gears.
I haven't done it to my X2, check it out, see what you think.

Jim,
Took a look at the site. Intereesting to say the least. I can never fathom why you'd want to run at such a high rate of spindle speed. Usally the asnswer to that one is drilling small holes. I'll have to disagree with that since I've drilled .080" holes at slower rates without breaking them. Also I think a small mill such as the X2 isn't rigid enough to with stand that kind one speed. Plus, how long will the spindle bearings hold up.
Personally I'd never mod it for higher speeds. Just my 2 cents.

Bernd,
All very good points
I would be unlikely to run the little mill at those speeds, but at lower "normal" speeds (I'm also intrigued by the mention of "more torque").
The board could serve as a cheap replacement if one ever burnt out their stock control board.

Has anybody saved this information on their computer, I have tried to access the site and it just does not want to open ?

Hi j.bain87,
First a warm welcome to the collective. :borg:
Apperently I was able to look at it once since I replied to the post, but can't open it today. Could be ISP troubles. Might try later and see if there's a change. And no I didn't keep the info stored on my computer.
Regards,
Bernd

Hey j.bain87,
It looks as if harrison.biz site is down.
I did keep a copy of the linked page...

North of 44, any chance of sending it to my email addy, please.
John.

Any chance I could have a copy please.
Email listed in profile but to save you it's john [ at ] stevenson-engineers.co.uk
Many thanks.

On it's way, John. I've sent it in .RAR and .ZIP format. If you need it uncompressed let me know.

OK got it thanks.
Looked on Ebay and found the board listed but they look nothing like the one in the article ?
I did buy 5 240 volt boards from surplus centre and used 3 on jobs, non X2 / 3 related but the two I had left wouldn't work when I came to use them.

Hi John,
I took another look on eBay and the ones I saw may be the basic board with some other electronics stuck on.
Try these guys http://www.plccenter.com/buy/PENTA+POWER/KBLC19PMMOD (http://www.plccenter.com/buy/PENTA+POWER/KBLC19PMMOD).
I'm NOT an expert on electronics so take the preceding with a grain of salt. :zap:
I don't have any suggestions regarding the 240V stuff either...
-
I'd appreciate a copy of the material from the downed website please..
Email is good and is in my profile.
My mill too has the KBIC speed controller..I have circuit diagrams too if anyone needs a copy..Send me a pm if you need it.
I already have a belt conversion on my Chester Conquest mill from the Jerry Rollet design.
TIA..

On it's way...

Thanks, arrived safe and sound...
One thing I'll add...when I went for the belt drive option, I changed out the bearings too..For Taper Rollers....Soooo much smoother and the machine is now much quieter than before when it had those horrible plastics gears....No more gears, no more tears.
Fly cutting is a breeze....

Hey John,
Which bearings did you use? Easy to do? Care to do a write up?

That sounds interesting  ........ is it a case of strip it, measure then source bearings John .................. or do you have any info stashed away
CC
Edit ::)
:bang: .......... oooops, sorry guys, I didn't spot "page 2" ......... so I'm really repeating what Eric's already asked, neer' mind ......... just reinforces the interest :headbang:

Guys...Yes I'll do a write up..It aint gonna happen tonite tho'...
I have some info stashed somewhere, I need to collect my thoughts.
If you dont hear anything in a couple of days it maybe because I've dozed off..gimme a prod!

Yer welcome
P.S. I'll add my voice to those clamoring for a write up on the Taper Roller bearings :headbang:

To NorthOf40, sorry for the delay, if you could try - j.bain87@yahoo.com - it would be appreciated.
regards John.
-
Did I read somewhere, the Conquest bearings are the same set, both for mill & lathe?
ie. The lathe taper bearings (30206) fit the mill......
David D
-
I can confirm that the original 6206 bearings fitted to my minimill have the following dimensions:
ID 30
OD 62
Depth 16
All dims in mm.
Equivalent Taper brgs are SKF 30206
Dimensions are:
ID 30
OD 62
Depth 17.5
I have these fitted to my Chester Conquest mill, the version I have is not the current version they sell but is similar to the Warco minimill.
Hope this helps

I have found this at £16 but it says width is 17.25 rather than 17.5 - is the depth of the bearing critical?
Same with these one @ at only £6 - http://www.bexhillbearings.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1452&xSec=11

I `d far rather deal with Arc......
http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Bearings/Taper-Roller-Bearings
The width of the bearing is not exact, due to the taper assembly......
David D
-
Thanks David! I didn`t know Arc stocked them - thanks a lot for pointing that out.
