Title: Story about electronic engine tachos....
Post by: John Hill on June 09, 2011, 01:06:36 AM
...... and Ford V6 engines..

Many moons ago, about 1970, two young fellows built themselves a jet boat with twin Ford V6 engines and France jet units.

They got it all finished and on the first trial one engine would not pull the same revs as the other, they tried everything, took the engines out and sent them away to be tested,  they put them back in the boat and the problem remained.  So they took the jet units out and sent them away too.  But being the dufusses they were the tide came in while the jet units were out of the boat and the engines got flooded!    So they had the engines cleaned and checked and of course the jet units came back clean bill of health too.  So they swapped jet units, left to right,  then swapped the engines but always the starboard side ran slow.

Then someone checked the settings on the back of the tachos....... :coffee:

Oh dear :D

Couldn't have been very far off or they would have noticed no difference in engine pitch.

That would be if they had thought to listen for different engine pitch.
