Title: Meehanite for piston rings
Post by: John Rudd on March 14, 2012, 06:07:12 AM
My metal supplier stocks Cast Iron in round bar form.
I asked what grade of CI it was only to be told it is Meehanite and suitable for model engineers.

So can I use this material for making piston rings?

No one has replied but perhaps I should comment about carving my way into a heap of meehanite- a surface plate.

All that muck! Frankly, I wonder if it is all worth it.

I have a lathe knee deep, a mill up to my oxters( whatever they are) and a 6x4 bandsaw hiding somewhere.

And the Best of British Luck :loco:
