Hello,
My name is Burton, I am an amature machinist, I have a 7 x 12 lathe and a 9 x 22 shortly on its way.
I have a Grizzly mini mill converted to CNC, I am into model engine building, gas or steam, I am big into RC anything, I have 1/32 scale up to 1/4 scale.
I am currently working on a couple of engines, A four cycle 7/16 stroke and bore. A 5 cylinder radial. Modifying a 23cc 2 cycle for a 1/5 scale 2wd buggy.
I am into turbine engines, I have built three, one is turbocharger based (Garrett T4) for a 1/4 scale tractor puller. The other two have turned out to be better garage heaters than engines.
A lot of my RC vehicles are custom made on the CNC mill.
I have a few helis and planes, I am better at building them than flying them.
I make most of my tooling due to cost and the good feeling of making something useful.
The majority of my time right now goes into my 5 month old daughter and everything that goes along with her.
As the name says -I modify everything-

Hi there Burton, welcome to the collective :borg:
Nice to see some pics of your work, I'd love to see some of your CNC mill conversion as well as that is something I am planning to do to my mill

Here are some temporary mounts for the steppers and the driver cabinet I built for it.
I am using Mach 3, I have MasterCAM but I dont like it as much.
I dont have any build pics but when I make the new mounts I will document.
The universals on the steppers are from Traxxas drive shafts, I have since built aluminum ones but I havent installed them yet.

Hi Burton,
Have seen you at the other place. :)
Welcome to the collective, as we fondly like to call it. :borg: We'll assimulate anybody.
Nice work. Hope you'll use the oppertunity to expand your hobbies here. I'm into a few things too. I'm building a electric powered rescue boat to rescue my speed boat when the engine dies. I', also into trains, used to fly planes, am not even going to try helie's.
Make yourself comfortable and have at it. I'm sure you'll reconize some familar faces here.
Regards,
Bernd

Hi Burton,
I really liked your intro, a very compact text and piccies, that told us everything we needed to know.
As you most probably know, this site is dedicated to absolutely nothing, so almost anything you make, or even have an interest in, will be thoroughly enjoyed by the members of the :borg:.
Sewing beads on ones underwear might raise a few eyebrows, but I am sure it would generate a good discussion .

Welcome Burton to the collective :borg:
I am converting my X2 to CNC as well. Well, as soon as I get back on my feet. Would love to see more of you RC stuff.

Hi Burton. Welcome to MadModder. You seem to have the right idea as you know we like lots of pictures. I have done the RC cars, boats and aircraft as well so can understand well. Enjoy your stay. :D :D
hm-mm, wonder what colour of beads John prefers?
Cheers

Thanks for the friendly welcome everyone.
I have seen a few faces that I recognize.
I see a lot of people here like RC, I am working on a Stealth as we speak. ?. (type)...
By the way did I mention I hate sanding bevels on foam. :bang:

It was only for a general reference.
I prefer sequins and rhinestones, just for the bling factor.
Bit uncomfortable on my thong though.

dah.. Should have known that bogs wouldn't settle for ordinary beads, gotta have rhinestone's don't you know to go with his reputation for bling.

You know Don, I don't think anybody here can picture Bog's in a thong.    No matter how much bling you put on it.

You are lucky enough I am not feeling well enough to hit the ban button! I think my eyes have been damaged!

Thanks for the extra pics of your CNC setup, are you using the stock leadscrews or have you converted to Ballscrews?
Tim

No offence but the only person I want to see in a thong is dating Stuart Townsand :bugeye:
Spudd, I havent converted to ball screws yet but I have noticed some slop from the wear and tear, they are on the list.
If anyone is interested, I got more done on the F 117 tonight. :)
I was going to make the build a thread but I dont think cutting foam is that interesting, I am going to make a bigger one based on how this one flies.
I will definately post a video of the demise, due to my lack of piloting capabilities. :bang:

B,
Please do start a build thread. It's always interesting to see how somebody else does it.

I suppose, since at least one is interested.
I have seen a few of your builds and Im impressed (I think I said earlier, anything RC and I am interested), I am laying out two boats here and there, one is an old steam tug boat and the other a custom with a chainsaw motor and lots of fiberglass.

For every 1 person that posts to say that they are interested there are dozens more quietly sitting on the sidelines reading the posts. Anyway, count me in for following along and thanks for posting this. :D :D
Cheers

That goes for me too B.
I really am amazed at some of the things you guys get up to, and to reply to every post as I would like, I would be typing continuously from the time I come onto the site to the time I left.
So just because you don't get a lot of replies, doesn't mean we aren't enjoying you showing us your projects.
