Title: Roll pin in lead screw
Post by: Baldrocker on October 09, 2009, 08:17:31 PM
Hi all
Hope this ? is in the right place.
Considering putting an variable speed electric drive on the leadscrew of my Myford ML7.
Have all the parts etc . I envisage fastening the pulley to the leadscrew using a roll pin.
Only potential stumbling block is this, would drilling through the ls seriously weaken it?
Thanks guys
BR
PS The pin would be about 1/8".

The lead screw in my new lathe has a roll pin in it where it connects to the shaft coming from the change gears. This is factory. There is also a shear pin within an inch of the roll pin, so thats 2 holes.

  Just my 2 cents.

Thanks mate, belt and braces, I'll go for a brass shear pin as well.
